A poem of Coming Of Age..adolescence and revelation.
T'ai Chi Chuan.
We all decided to go on this trip
And took a Greyhound to Boston:
The whole jaded class,it seemed.
The ride,monotonous and tiresome,
Was a trudge through grey highway,
But on arrival, Boston was buzzing with lights!]
I first sighted a tramp on a corner street,]
Then a prostitute,dealing ,on the beat..]
We arrived at hotel and decided to visit:
Boston was a boring world of university campuses]
And students drinking tea or hot chocolate at cafes.]
And then she appeared:in the morning frosty light,]
Pristine as a white dove in rapid flight_]
An asian woman in a park.
Practicing T'ai chi chuan ,graceful and alert,]
I was mesmerized by her gestures and her art_]
Swinging slowly her arm and moving her hand to the sky,]
The memory of her dauntless concentration]
Forever engraved in my mind_
Dreamlike ,as I was hardly awake,
She reminds of hope in a darkness of hate.]
I like the image of the trudge through the highway. We all have flashes like that on trips, boring and otherwise, those are the things we remember long after the museums have faded.
