I wrote it when my girlfriend passed.

Heaven split open and a girl fell through

Down to the earth she landed

You’ve never seen such a beautiful she

Such loveliness had been commanded

The birds gave song and the flowers swooned

Whenever she passed them by

You’ve never seen such a beautiful she

With a heart of gold upon high

She loved every soul and nary a one

Had anything cruel to say

You’ve never seen such a beautiful she

She made hearts make merry and play

Like a clear running stream so tender and sweet

She moved with a poise and grace

You’ve never seen such a beautiful she

Nor you’ll never see such a face

She had that touch, the power to heal

And the masses came to her asking

You’ve never seen such a beautiful she

She said ‘in the light you’re already basking’

She gave of herself to all who would listen

Such wisdom, mementoes and pearls

You’ve never seen such a beautiful she

She opened up like a sail that unfurls

Can you remember a time when we had

A queen at the powerful gate.

You’ve never see such a beautiful she

One that banished all sadness and hate.

The time came when a voice said softly and smooth

It’s time that you flew to the stars

You’ve never seen such a beautiful she

God said you are finished, you are ours.

Chris this is so heart touching and beautifully penned. Brought tears to my eyes. She must have been an exceptional woman. So sorry for your loss.

I can't believe no one is commenting. Too many here have their own little cliques that exchange comments rather than comment on a beautiful poem like this.

Your metaphors and similes describe someone you loved deeply who meant the world to you. My only regret is that you wrote it after she died and not before, when she could bask in your words.

Next Arrivals by Robin Ouzman Hislop

Robin Ouzman Hislop's poetry is certainly in dialogue with some of the key architects of the 'poetics of indeterminacy' – both the Modernist strands represented by the likes of Beckett and Stein, and the postmodernist strands represented, initially,
