~ Rainy Night Rhythms ~

sitting on a porch

deep in a wicker chair

shallow thoughts running through my head

days of floating in this wordless void

empty thoughts vying to be seen

instead locking me within a truth

softly rain begins falling

each drop a symphony of sound

as it rhythmically hits a tin roof

sometimes sounding like a sad song

the kind that makes you want to write

words with a slow beat and sad sighs

other times sounds of love’s rhythms

which sooth your soul and brings to mind

slow dancing in the rain as night slips away

the clock hands pass midnight

when clarity seemingly has more power

and thoughts make more sense

after the witching hour

problems pass through your mind

mingling with creative spurts

you let them all just float around

not willing to focus or become alert

as you glide into that soft place

just before sleep takes you away

that one perfect thought arrives

how do you make it stay

Oh! How I love the rain
rain drops pelting on a tin roof
is the most romantic natiural setting.
just let the lightning and thunder
carry you away
into utopia.
A most beautiful write ...Carole

That is why I love it when it rains. In the city we don't hear the sound well when it rains, but whenever we go out of the city to the cottage, it's like another world, and whenever it rains, it is like magical...

Eddie Rabbit said it best, "I Love A Rainy Night." I've sat by the picture window many times watching and listening to the rain. Right before I take off my socks and go running through it. Absolutely loved this one.

Carole,
This is Beautiful and so flowing,
The rain does have so many emotions it stirs and brings.
Excellent and all so very true.
And an excellent question!
thank You so Much

Words with rain - to bring on sleep... but how do I bring my computer over to the couch, or to bed with me? Enjoyed this, and know exactly what you're saying. Good poetry, good writer. - Bill

Splendid write Carole...I think the secrect is to get those thoughts down straight away...I love the title too 'Rainy night Rhythms' has a cadence about it. It's rainning here at the moment and windy forcing my muse to get the umbrella out...ah to be stood 'neath a shower of words.

I love a rainy night! Hoping one comes our way again soon... without the sea of red clay in my back yard. Nice.
