~Four Years Later~

Four years have gone by

and each of us recall

where we heard, or saw

the twin towers fall

~~

I was working the morning of 9/11

when we were told

We sat in stunned silence

seeing that horrendous day unfold

~~

Bewildered we watched the ash and soot

as debris kept raining down

My phone lines started ringing

bringing me back by the sound

~~

Behind a controlled and calm voice

I hid my emotions while inside I cried

as I answered 911 emergence calls

on 9/11, a day when so many died

~~

As the firefighters, medics and police

fought valiantly to save each and every one

 Emergency personal across the land

responded to their own emergency calls

until their shifts were done

~~

At the end of our watch, we walked out the door

our tears running free

we now could mourn the great loss

of that terrifying, horrific September day

when the sky bled with sorrow

at the terrible cost

~~

As a nation we become

one family, one soul  from something torn

and from these wounds we’ll heal

as our nation’s spirit is reborn…

Haiku:

september eleven

a day that quelled all poets pens

tears washed the words away

I remember that day - I was at work. Someone came over and told me about the twin towers came down, and I was totally stunned. I thought he was joking. It took me at least 15 minutes to know that he was telling me the truth. Something like this couldn't have just happened on a day that was supposed to be good.

Now it is a memory that will stay on forever...

This is an excellent tribute to all who served on that horrific day. They just kept going and going, fatigue seemed to elude them. I am in awe of all who did whatever they could to save lives, many at the expense of their own and also to those who took the time to console the ones who couldn't cope with what was happening. The rule of the emergency crews. Get the job done, cry when you are driving home. Their strength is beyond my comprehension. Great job, Carole.
Take care,
Sherry

This poetic feast feeds the solidarity movement of America, which was created on that horrifying day. I, too, salute everyone “who kept it together,” in order to assist the heroic first responders and keep them heading in the right direction. One must never forget, everyone’s valiant efforts nor can we allow these events to prevent us from staying the course until we rebuild our great nation and bring “JUSTICE” to those who are responsible for that event. I agree with Eileen, the Haiku is an exceptional write, and hopefully it would be considered to be included with the entire collection, recording the horrendous events of that fateful day “Four Years Ago” on September 11, 2001. Thank you for sharing. Take good care and be well.

Thanks for being there when you were most needed. It's not our loss that I celebrate, but the fact that so many survived.

Carole your poem has truly brought home the emotion of that day and I can only imagine what you went through too. The Haiku is in a class of its own! I think it is perfection, and hope it will be sent to the 9/11 memorial commission to be included in their memorabelia. It's that good! Send it please! My teary eyes can hardly see...Thank you for sharing...

Eileen

Beautiful seniment, beautiful words. I have to disagree a bit about us all coming together. We did, for about a day and a half, then the political potshots began, on both sides of the political spectrum.
