~ Stormy Nights ~

The house gathered its breath

its heartbeat pulsed

all the while pretending

to be empty

A slight stiffness to the way

she slipped through the air

crossing the room

A lively patina of emotions

squirmed across her thoughts

like static electricity

A clap of thunder rolled

windowpanes vibrating

like drumheads

lights throbbing dimly’

like pulsing storm beams

Coruscating curtains

of radiant rain silvered the night

Torrents pounded and pried

seeking entrance

as the storm painted luminous

galaxies on the skylights

and faint images

crawled the hallway floors

Loneliness was present

as if pure purpose

encased in pure impatience

pierced and filled the void

with an oppressive sense of bleakness

Standing by the window

the street was visible

behind that sequined veil of rain

only in a succession of wedges

between half closed blinds

Her reflection

just bounced back

into the lonesome void

Profound ... sated with hidden meaning.
So profound ... that in the lonesome void, as 'her' reflection just bounced back, the delicate beauty of the verse turned its beam on 'her' not-so-concealed emotion.

Lovely. Compelling. Skilfully crafted.

Breathtaking is the word!! Actually, I can't think of a
superlative that is strong enough. You show instead of tell, and
that is far harder than it looks. L o v e i t. 'Pea' <3

Carole,
Storms intrique me. The more intense they are, the better I like it. Well..to a point anyway.
There's just something about the wind and rain, the lightning flashes and rolls of thunder that wake something deep within me.
You've taken words and stirred that very feeling, which not easily done.
A grand photo you've painted here in words.

This is scary stuff. You and Karla were both thinking storms in the nigh today. Lonely, actually more than scary is this beautifully told tale of desperation.
