~ Unexpected Loneliness ~
Storm clouds started rolling in
fat and black, like dirty cotton balls
The sky takes on a purple hue
and the rain begins to fall
The silence is disturbed by the change
suddenly the air is charged with unease
A feeling of restlessness hovers
just beyond where I can see
Raindrops chasing each other
as they race down the window pane
heading for unseen places
as more follow in vain
I didn’t see it coming
as the rain moved across the space
silently on cat paws it crept in
dropping around me like invisible lace
Uninvited it settles in
testing my emotional limitations
oh how I resent its intrusion
on my peaceful isolation
That lonesome feeling
can be overwhelming if allowed
taking over, owning you
as rain surrounds me like a shroud
leaving me
in a cocoon of my thoughts

The body and voice of this poem, "Unexpected Loneliness" show the picture
of a magnificent poetic flower with each petal painted with colors of the rainbow of creative excellence.

My family and I used to live next to a lake in Northern Wisconsin. When the rains swept over the lake, they carried emotions with them. You have captured such feelings in "Unexpected Loneliness." Thank you for sharing with us!

i have to say this is real.
this line is exactly what unexpected loneliness is all about.
makes me think of breakfast at tiffanys when shes like
you ever heard of the mean reds?
[you mean like the blues?]
no... the blues are coz youre getting fat and maybe its been raining too long...
the mean reds are nasty...
suddenly youre afraid and you dont know what of...
yeah... thats what your line about emotional limitations reminds me of.
i guess if loneliness was expected you could offer it a cup of tea or show it the door and then it wouldnt be so ghastly...
