~A Sad Winter’s Rain ~

The silence of another gloomy day

is disturbed by a restless wind

drumming a loose shutter

at the locked window

Just as suddenly it swooped,

swirling lingering leaves high

to fall again on ashen snow

Dirty clouds scuttle in

looking like rags that

swabbed a filthy floor

Without the fanfare

of lightning’s jagged teeth

and thunders booming roar

the sky convulsed

shaking  off millions of pewter rain drops

that pecked at the remaining snow

like barnyard hens

Dusk began sliding in behind

 rain that resembled shimmering

curtains of smoke

as it swallowed the day

Like anything else, with a cup of coffee on hand, looking at the rain fingers going down the window's glass, like lazy ones trying to caress you from a distance until they rivulet to join each other on the barnyard.

the duldrums of winter seem to drag on, but alas spring is sprung early and fresh drops of water clean away the winter

Your words capture a sloppy cold rain like truthful gossip. I'm cheering that I live where I do... even though the weather ain't no winner, lately. Good writing, and great imaging of conditions.

And that's the way is it . . . Rain. It can soothe us and it can chill us . . . I personally like the drumming of a loose shutter . . . The jagged slash of lightning . . . Still, as your well-written poem points out, it can be nasty . . .
