The pride left in his blighted face
served as subtle warning
that though his hands were haggard
and his throat was afire,
his will was yet steel
and coiled as a viper
an untarnished desire
to be sung away to glory
boiling up through resolve
swimming in sparks
in long muddied eyes

A powerful poem written in short verses. A nice read.
