In view of the current disturbing rhetoric flying around in political circles. I've decided to air this piece again (sorry folks)...based on an actual experience I had a number of years ago, and (though I didn't know it at the time)the inspiration for 'Tales from the Apocalypse'...Ahem!

Please forgive the differing font, sodding editor thing playing up.

The Prophet

'Apparently people in Rotherham seem to prefer hanging
a more traditional route for suicide'…that's what he said
the man in the gutter, who coughed and spluttered
and spoke in an alcoholic stutter.
The Prophet? The Nutter?
With the sun-dried face.

What did he mean? This persona-non-gratis
a collection of rags covered in fleas
exuding an odour that stank of cheese.
A remnant of a life held together with string.
Special Brew clinging sloppily, to a well-mane'd chin.
I was about to ask, when...

bloodshot eyes gazed out from deep black holes
and shot a stare that burnt the soul.
Smiling a toothless grin in wizened disgrace,
this prophet? This nutter?
With the sun-dried face

laughed menacingly, then began to utter...

'They're better off out of it - the dead!
It's all there! In ancient texts and sacred scrolls,
even in the political ramblings of martyred souls
the death of your identity, consumed by techno-rapture,
keeping up with society trying to avoid capture,
reaching for the singularity betraying the Gods.'
You’ll get what you deserve you arrogant sods.

The foundations of life you know so well

will melt beneath your feet

in a sea of fire and angry heat.

It’s the end of your evolution,

a summary demise

and from the ashes there shall arise…

a new species…led by I

The Lord of the Flies.’

Said the prophet? The nutter?

With the sun-dried face.

By Jove..couldn't have said it better myself..
Needless to say it's all in the REAL for now..BUT we CAN and WILL transmute the scenario if enough of us AWAKEN from amnesia!!!

Exceptional write..thank you Paul!

Fascinating piece, Paul - and I truly hope that this new species does a much better job than we have so poorly managed.

"The Prophet" said it and we heard the message before his last spittle of chewed tobacco dried out ~ and the Poet became a semaphore of industrialized prophecies.

The semaphore shows red light like facts described as prophecies. And I know that prophecy as an inspired message or a coined prediction can be enforced to become history or can be changed. The receiver and the deliver will have the credit for making a direful future become magnificent and splendorous one or to make a life of bonanza become starvation and serfdom. It is up to the leaders of the planet to decide, and it is up to the people to aye, aye for them or nay, nay, and show them that their power can only remain under people’s will. The nerve center of the matter is that people, as people, don’t think, either because they are afraid to lose their daily bread, or because their stomach already talks louder, – for there is no dignity – in the heart that pumps blood whose ingredients signals trace of starvation and lacks the minimum vitality to ignite the brain.

Those who have a privileged life, but think they will lose it if they say NAY to the wrongdoing of their leaders; that think that is better be for the king no matter what the king does, – are worst than those that can’t think, – because they adulterate the present and prepare a dreadful future.

Our hope is that one day we will understand that the KING is there because he doesn’t allow people to think otherwise, and that as long as the DESPOTIC-DOGMATIC king is there, the future of our children and grandchildren won’t be, but corruption, starvation and drug addiction.

The human activities can’t be harmonized to a balance of power, unless force is used to enforce that Power. Whenever this method is used, the leader misinterprets domain of power with power’s domination. I am still trying to find a formula to solve this worldly dilemma. That is why I keep “ON A JOURNEY TO JUSTICE FOR JUSTICE EVERYWHERE”.

COURAGE AND WISDOM, Poet! Never rest Your pen.

Gratefully,

A Northern Nutter, huh.
Intelligent and scarey cos it really is getting close, with the likes of Iran wanting to wipe out Israel.
I wonder who really are the nutters?

I like this kind of in-your-face-and-smelling-of-rotgut-whiskey philosophizing, God knows I done my share of it over the years. We lived in very troubled times and I fear they are going to get worse.

good lord! i guess if energy and consciousness create reality (i.e. e+c=r) then this guy could well have become his own version of God - all alone in the gutter. btw, 'sun-dried face' image is brilliant.

You venture to the edge of the abyss in this well retrieved composition, bristling with archaic innuendo and witticisms...:)
And yet....there is still some hope left, or as my Mum used to say, a drunk man always tells the truth !
Beezlebub's reign will be one thousand years, but eternity is but a passing second in God's eyes !
