She cowers in the corner

The ivory walls towering above her

Closing in on her.

As her hands creep up to cover the bruises,

She hears his footsteps again.

They resonate within her always

Dragging fear out of its cave

Confusion fills her

She should flee

But, its just so easy to stay.

She'll survive this

She always does

But, little by little,

Her heart

Her soul

Turn gray

As she loses herself to

Fists

And boots

And belts

Then, one day

She leaves

Her courage gathered

From the brightening of two

Purple lines

They strike through her heart

And womb

Giving her strength above all

But also,

Peace.

An honest portrayal of the battered woman psyche. It's never easier to stay - no matter what they say.
