The owl, proud, is perched on The strong arm of an ancient oak Silhouetted against an azure sky It�s eyes, golden, stare out into the darkness Waiting For the dead Those lost souls, which the owl carries away To nowhere Only the owl knows where she goes Her talons are eager But she is content to wait For the next soul Silently in the inky blackness

I've read of owls being the harbingers of death. This takes that belief to a deeper level. Great write, Carrie...

when i was back in ohio, i was awakened by a great horned owl; he was sitting on the neighbor's roof, hooting. that was what woke me up. it was kind of scary, but it was also exciting! nice write, carrie; i love owls!
