I had another TIA SEPT 19, 2016 and spent 3 days in the hospital. This is the fifth one I have had since 2011.

The brain controls how our body functions,how we think,talk and move. The signals to the brain are transmitted through the spinal cord to the rest of the body.

The right side of the brain controls the left side of the brain and the left controls the right. This includes movement and sensation.

The carotid arteries provide the majority of the blood supply to parts of the brain known as anterior circulation. Balance and coordination controlled by the cerebellum ,or base of the brain comes from the vertebral arteries located in bony canals in the back of the vertebral column.

When the brain looses its blood supply, it tries to restore blood flow. If blood flow is restored function can return to the affected part of the brain. That's what happens when a TIA,(Trans Ischemic Attack) or mini stroke occurs.

A TIA can resolve with in minutes or take as long as 24 hrs to do so. They are usually warning signs of a future stroke.

Brain cells require oxygen and glucose to function properly. If the blood supply is lost, then the nutrient supply is lost.
The blood supply to the brain can be lost in different ways. Blood clots (em bolus) can form in tiny blood vessels. This is usually preceded by a build up of plaque caused by deposits of fatty tissues and cholesterol. A blood clot can form if the plaque ruptures leading to further blockage of the arteries.

Atrial tribulation can also cause an em bolus. The upper chambers of the heart do not beat in coordination with the lower chambers. The chambers jiggle and do not beat in a coordinated fashion. The blood becomes stagnant and small clots can form. The clots can emerge in any part of the body, but the brain is usually the target. There are other causes also which you can read about if interested.

Symptoms Of A Trans Ischemic Attack:

Speech and vision can be affected
Confusion, difficulty is speaking or saying words or not being able to speak at all.
Difficulty in focusing or blurred vision
Numbness or weakness, inability to move left or right side of the body or loss of consciousness.

If any of these symptoms happen call 911 at once and let your doctor know.

Blood work and a Cat Scan can confirm what has happened. Plavix and Aspirin are usually the medications given to combat this illness, but there are others which are available also. Recent tests confirm that I have had numerous small strokes. The last in Sept. was scary and affected the right side of my face a little bit.
