Haven't we all done this? Hidden from a difficult choice? "Solved" things by doing what's easiest? Coverted what's complicated into the convenience of black and white, so we don't have to search for truth in a haze of gray? Those are questions that come to me often and I find I do best when I recognize that they are the real ones.
The characters in my book, "Hidden Impact", survive and grow because they do some of that wrestling.
Hiding
Must it be my lot
When under a siege,
Often of my own making,
To rush first
For the foxholes of known comfort,
Preferring what once was safe
To what might be,
And relief for what bothers me
In the moment
To the harder task
Of facing fear?
Why close my mind with either/or
and turn away from both/and?
Why not vistas of the heart and soul,
Reaching out, instead of digging in?
