Spell Check for the Holidays
What a diff’rence an “a” makes
One simple sound that tolls the change of
Our attention and our aspirations.
Meditation is gone, a passé practice, while
Media-tation is now both seer and grail.
Somewhere between grand visions
And quiet examination, we used
To find our fundamental answers.
Now we rarely get that far,
Short-stopped by glitz, glamour and
The siren song of accumulation.
Messages, once on the page, then in the air
Have abandoned the set to fit in our hand,
So conveniently close and constant
That there’s no need to seek advice;
It finds us before we even think of asking for it.
Slow down, we’re told.
But what’s that when you’re stuck in the fast lane?
You can't change the culture all by yourself !
Okay, got that, But how about
A start, just a small shift of gears?
‘Tis the season to be (smile now!) jolly?
Why not take a moment to resist the folly,
To find a quiet place and choose for yourself
What and how your really want to celebrate?
Take away the added “a” and meditate again.
