Can’t Breathe

He’s been my friend, husband and lover

for some 20 years.

I have suffered his pain, taken it as my own:

Experienced the loss of him and sometimes gain.

But sometimes, you’ve just got to refrain.

He’s the one that made me crazy for so long,

I never minded that it was wrong,

I had my youth and energy:

Drove to Florida, jamming all the way

Trying to get away, just go away.

Walked on private beaches,

watched my white skin

turn bronze. Ashen hair so full of streaks,

most people would pay

for the sun bleached look of this freaky-freak.

I’ll always love him. He’s turned 50

now and still such a boy.

My dear sweet love: I’m growing a bit tired

you must know, you surely know.

You have an entire new life but you carry

A mean baggage that weighs it down: let it go love

Give her a try, please, for me, let her breathe.

In a week of seven, I talk to you ten.

Pray for you more and keep loving you

When, we should let it go love,

Give her a try; please for us, for her.

For me, I’m suffocating, can’t breathe.

Up for air is a laborious thing,
