In search of oneself, with the voices inside screaming...
On the inside looking out
In here shouldn’t be strange
The place seems different,
And it hasn’t changed.
The inner workings of a
Pumping clock, tock, tock, tock
Confusing! Am I inside a vein
That’s been rearranged?
Whooshing, feeding
A feral heart I don’t recognize
Yet, I it call mine, mine, mine, mine!
Pulsing, whirring pressure,
Crimson liquid cadence, a
Thump..thump..thump
This tempo driven by the mallets of a
Mad, mad tympanist, that
Idiot coxswain, insistent screaming,
Undignified, and I can’t quite hear
Past the machinery, vague, a familiar
Voice, tortured, squealing constriction,
Forceful bleating, wailing.
Enough! You woeful, irritating
Wretch, be quiet, leave me in pieces.
Fading now, receding, muffled
Beats and calm asserts itself,
Distant taps and lake surf,
Quieter now. Still, that couldn’t have
Been me; I’m suspended, in diminished
Urgency, ecstasy by comparison,
Stretching myself, effaced.
Until the next alarm.

I like the onomatopoeia(sound effects) in this rather surreal poem, some existential agonies are expressed very closely. I am not convinced with ellipses in Thump..thump..thump. You use them when you have a POV(point of view) skip. It is little overwraught and over punctuated towards the end...Though this can be deliberate to get the effect of turbulence...
