A true story. I turned it into a poetic experience Hope you are blessed

Saving Angels

A drunk woman in a pickup
They say she never saw the light
She caused an eight-car pileup
On I-95 that Valentine’s night.

Battered broken bodies lay about
And blood was everywhere
Screaming victims in pain cry out
As the Collector awaits his share .

A father pinned inside his car
Screams bolt above the siren shrills
His grievous plea splits the air
Oh God! Where are my girls?

Fighting to liberate his pinned hands
Twisting he struggles turning to see
Chastised by mangled metal bands
One split second caused a grim captivity.

Panicked eyes soon focused on
Where the twins had been
Half the car was severed by this evil spawn
Gripping fear makes his head begin to spin.

Crying out sending a prayerful plea
Oh! Father, Please let them be Alive
Scooped up in your arms safely free
I will Not Believe that they have died.

Firefighters came cutting him loose
Yelling for them to search the back
Nigh a soul maybe his minds obtuse
Even the seat belts were intact.

Officers hear his wild screaming
Above all the noisy shrills
In supplication tears streaming
Please my Lord, help me find my girls

They are six years old in red tops
There pants red and white to match.
They are in my car, spoke up the cop
Safe without a scratch.

They said their mommy put them here
I have searched high and low
She must have wandered off in fear
Look Daddy! She gave us her pink bow.

Father hugged his girls with Joy
And grasped the bow of one so fair
May I keep this bow to enjoy?
For at her Funeral this was in her hair.

The officer looking bemused
Asks, how can that be true ?
Mommy said don't be confused
She left it especially for you.

Mommy said you would be all right
Than she put us in this car
With these flashing lights.
And said I'm never very far.

We asked her to stay the night
Because we miss her so
But Mommy just hugged us tight
And said she had to go.

She said someday we would understand
She told us not to fuss
She said to tell you Daddy
She is watching over us.

He knew without a doubt
That what they spoke was true
Recalling her last words
I'm watching over you.

Firefighters' note could not explain
How a twisted mangled car
Allowed them to escape deaths reign
Without a single scar.

At the bottom of his report he wrote
In print so very fine
An Angel walked the beat tonight
I am so glad that beat was MINE!
