We lived the youthful life, husband:
The kind where the summers enfolded us and
we sat in bed all day and ate grapes.
The days were spent washing our cars;
soap suds...crisp, cold water…
and walks through the neighborhood’s
fields of gold.
And the nights, oh they too were good to us.
You always would point out Orion
on clear nights. And I, The Pleiades.
Or we would share a blanket and watch
the star showers, smacking mosquitoes
off our skin.
Oh, we were artists. We were intellects. We were gods.
But the slow and steady fade of love had its grip on me. And now
that it has finally let me loose, I see it for all that it is.
Love conquers youth.
Love conquers happiness.
Love conquers all.
