You Don't Bring Me Flowers

You don’t bring me flowers
anymore, is what I was thinking
when I saw you today. But then I
remembered that you never brought
me flowers anyway – it was always just
my imagination leading me to believe
that you actually loved me or cared
about the little things I cared about.

You never brought me flowers
except that one time when you brought
me a plant and I let it die because
I can barely take care of myself,
let alone a plant.
You were so mad when it died and
you said you wouldn’t buy me flowers
anymore – but you never bought me
flowers anyway.

You’ll never bring me flowers again
because I won’t let you love me
anymore. I have turned into the
unlovable. I don’t want the love
that makes me expect flowers and love
notes on the fridge in the mornings.
You never left love notes on the fridge.
You never brought me flowers.
And you’ll never have the chance again.
