Let me sing you a song of truth
Take you back to my days of youth
Days were rushed and nights were spent
With misery following wherever I went
I was a poor girl with clothes all a tattered
But I didn’t care; it’s not like it mattered
The boys didn’t love me; the girls didn’t care
No one in the world noticed what I’d wear
My hair was a tangled, sad-looking mess
With sticks in it, leaves in it; nature’s distress
From the days when I’d sleep out in the cold of the night
Where I couldn't see through the deep black of sight
That kept me from loving; kept me so cold
Mother would lock me in the closet of old
Dirty,
Musty,
Holey,
Dusty
Attic’s filth-ridden clothes
But that’s where I found her deep in the dark
Hidden and crying, but glowed in the stark
Nakedness of the world she’d been
Hiding from
Running from...
And that’s when I found that the world didn’t care
Whether or not you’re breathing its air
Because one day you’ll realize when you’re old and you’re gray
That no one will care about you, come death or what may
