Closing Down

The doors are closing, the windows shut,
I’ve packed my things, and moved my hut
To some far-off place where I can’t feel,
And wrapped myself in stainless steel.
I was wrong to open up,
And sit there with my begging cup,
Looking to the empty one
To tell me love was more than fun.
But once again, I have found,
That there really isn’t solid ground
Where I can stand and feel the peace
Enter my body and stick like grease.
Instead I sit here, teary-eyed,
Looking for the faintest guide
To lead me in the right direction,
Away from love and the affection
That I thought was right, that I thought was mine
That I had waited for all of this time.
So many years I sat and watched
As he was slapped and kicked and botched,
Wondering if I could give
What he needed to want to live.
But I find that this is not the case,
He lives his life in empty space.
He doesn’t want my love to be
The one true thing in life, you see.
Don’t get me wrong I’m not trying to save
A life that looks forward to seeing its grave,
If empty he wants I’ll leave him alone,
And welcome back my life as Stone.
It was easier that way, in misery,
Never wondering what we could be.
He’s right that emotions can get in the way,
They’ve already ruined my very long day,
But what he doesn’t know is I
Have been in love with him by and by
Since the very day we met,
But on a different level yet.
He thinks he knows what’s best for him,
A life of sadness, a life of grim
That he thinks he deserves in his nothingness
I guess.
AND YES, I’M MAD! LOOK AT ME!
WRAPPING A HEART THAT LEARNED TO BE FREE!
WHAT MOTHER-FUCKING BLASPHEMY!
END THE HURT AND FIND SOME MORE,
WAITING BEHIND EVERY DOOR
THAT YOU HAPPEN TO OPEN, THAT YOU HAPPEN TO CHANCE,
WHEN YOU FINALLY TEACH YOURSELF HOW TO DANCE
IN A WAY THAT NO ONE COULD HAVE TAUGHT YOU BEFORE
ONLY TO END UP ON THE FUCKING DANCE FLOOR.
…Wishing you had never tried
To share the secrets you held inside.

Don’t make me be logical and try to see
Beyond my level of hostility,
FUCK ALL LOGIC, AND FUCK ALL LOVE!
When it comes to push and shove
I’m the one that always loses,
Ending up with internal bruises,
Desperately wanting what’s given to me:
The happiness you’ve taken back from me.
Just so there’s no confusion, now you know
The things you said that made me go:
The love I offered that you declined,
The love that no one can ever find;
Because it’s like me, it’s beyond rare.
But I’m the only one who cares.
I’m the only one that sees
Through f***ing love’s hypocrisy;
You float one minute; you drown the next,
You learn to fight for make-up sex.
All the while knowing you
Are jumping through love’s fire hoops,
PUT ON A SHOW; CHARGE A FLAT FEE,
SURELY THIS PAIN ISN’T FOR FREE!
COME ON MOTHERFUCKERS, WHO’S NEXT IN LINE?
GIVE ME YOUR KISSES, LIES, AND YOUR TIME,
MAKE ME WASTE MINE!
It doesn’t make sense that I hurt so much,
When all you did was sit back and touch
The deepest deep of my insecure heart;
It’s what I worried about from the start.
But it’s too late now, I’ve loved and I’ve lost.
What a stupid game at my cost,
When I knew better, I knew how to play,
I let these emotions get in the way.
Too pointless to tell you, as you’ve made up your mind,
That love isn’t part of the contract you signed.
Contract? What contract? I’m always expecting,
Whether you sit there and love, or sit and do nothing.
I’m sorry I loved you, I’m sorry I cared,
I’m sorry I grew brave enough and I dared
To let you see this side of me
The one that falls in love so easily;
The one that’s tough, but still can drown
Unless I stop…
I’m completely shut down.

An awesome write, Mia. I like to think of this as being said while you are packing your things and getting ready to leave. I picture you forcefully shoving something into a suitcase at the end of every line. This is a compelling story told in some kick-ass poetry. I think this is the best thing you've written, and that is definitely saying something.

Banging to the max! Hold on tight, this poem is a real rough ride, a roller coaster of verse and the horror of a forty foot drop

I'm sure this was a hard piece to write, but hopefully cleansing as well. Brutal honesty at it's best.
Keep up the good fight.
