Sometimes I have wondered if our life trip could be compared to anything, and if so, at my age, could I dispense of the modern jet of today and go back to my roots, when the churning rasp of locomotives told you of heavy load being pulled...like loading wagons with a lot of years.
Think, if life were a long trip,
say, from Chicago's Union Station
where you were born...
to San Francisco's Emeryville,
bein it, of your long trip,
its final stop.
You will see very young ones
being unloaded in Omaha
before getting old...
doesn't matter if their tickets
was rubbed stamped,
they must go.
Traveling over Indiana one can
compare as the trip's first part,
your childhood...
puberty you will reach
in the border with Nebraska,where
more others will fall.
College will be looking in your face
by the time you reach Omaha,
the first major stop...
where a few of the promising ones
will have not more valid
tickets to show.
The train will start to go faster
hitting Union Station in Denver
before you know...
wife, kids and commuting 9 to 5
to pay the bill and mortgage
on the house.
By Salt Lake City, middle age
will pull a few hairs
you are getting bald...
but you wouldn't be tempted
by Nevada's mortal sins
as you over it go.
Life will come to a sundown
reaching Frisco's Emeryville,
your trip's last stop...
Hawaii will be nex for being good
in life, or and eternal Alcatraz,
if you wasted yours.
Wonderful write I love the use of the train...life is sometimes much like a train, at times it speeds swiftly by, other times we are weighted down by the load that we carry...you've touched me deeply with this one my friend...for I too sometimes feel as a train, life is speeding by faster everyday and sometimes the wait and the weight of life gets heavy...this one is a keeper for me!
