If you love someone so much, set them free...
"Love me or kill me, but never abandon me" by Rabindranah Tagore

Poem Artwork

I hear the soft steps approaching as
she entered the shadows of my void
like a delicate butterfly unsuspecting
on the net of my sadness so caught.

Her feeble whisperings for help
weren’t heard, she had no a voice,
but a murmur transcending times
and perhaps, yes, out of this world.

I, from the anguished shadow’s deeps
went to see who in my net was the call,
and something ethereal prickled my eyes
with a shy smile that were saying, love.

How she, coming down from the light
could enter the dark realms of my void?
trying to look into a non-existing heart
and be part of something that never was?

Her eyes looking into mine were suddenly
sad, with the realization of broken bones,
scars and a violet aura of rage around
from a child inside, of the man before.

Like the lungs of something unexplained
from the shadow towards the light I blow
that ethereal apparition from my net,
here in my shadows she don’t belong.

Receding back to the deeps without a sun,
I will go to sleep dreaming of her love,
because if you once in your life cared,
don’t hold your butterfly, let her go.

Georg, Yes love is like a butterfly, and yes never suffocate or smother the other let them fly free and flutter and they will return if it's meant to be. Beautiful words here, I am always in awe of your writing talent.

This is so sad, Georg. We all need to be loved, even if we don't believe we deserve to be. It is not up to us to decide if someone else has the right to love us, simply to accept that they do, whether we understand it or not. Our dragons are our own, but that does not mean that someone else cannot aid us in the slaying of them. Powerful offering.
Take care,
Sherry
