One day He will be arriving and we will not notice because of our collective eyes compiting to be the first finding that elusives gold nuggets on the ground.........
The sky is trying to tell us something
but we don’t look up, not anymore,
our eyes are glued looking for pennies
that we believe are lying on the ground.
Forgotten friends that waited for letters
telling them that they we never forgot,
will wait a little longer, as we, looking
for lost pennies…can’t write a word.
People’s churches are empty on Sundays
on a free day they are looking for gold,
the prayers go now to the bank’s monies
because Greed is the name of the new god.
We don’t look at the sky as we did
when we were not ashamed being poor
and were happy of God’s giving days
when a piece of hard bread was love.
If you look at the sky you will maybe see
it telling to all of you “man…good luck!”
you missed what is all about living life
looking for inexistent pennies on the ground
"He who hath something on the ground has something in the sky" a Somali proverb. These were the good old days when we had a farm but looked rain for it from the sky. So a farmer was so much connected to the sky than to the ground. But with modern irrigation systems a farmer worries not about rain but more about the engine that pumps the water; so he looks for pennies lying on the ground while praying for his new God .... Greed. Now to go back to God should we go back to old underdeveloped life of barbaric ages or we can still be with God though our life has been modernized far beyond than we rely on anything else other than the machine or bank. George thanks for this offering. I always love your works.
I don't know how new greed is to the pantheon of scumbags, but I do know that it scars a lot of people permanently. Some of them have been close friends of mine too! This is a close to the bone insight that pegs many in the American dynasty Georg. Blessings poet ...

A sad depiction of man/woman, but true. Look around and what do you see - people running helter skelter through life, looking for ways to make more money. Yet, not seeing the true beauty around them - LIFE, PEOPLE, GOODNESS and LOVE. I think I got carried away, but I'm entitled;
George, God will bless you for that! It is a wonderful, deep, and rewarding piece of poetry, that speaks volumes, I myself used to look for pennies on the ground, and if I found one I would say a prayer wish for my little Jasmin < somehow she told me to just pray, for they had buckets full of pennies in heaven, they just needed prayers, more praying, less looking for riches in this world, instead of the next. Bless You! Jasmin Horst
The Bible says that in the last days, the "love of many will wax cold." Believe it: it's all mememe, forget your brother, your neighbor...sad. No wonder the clouds are flipping us off! An excellent write.
Will there be any faith left when Christs' second coming arrives? The poor still crowd the churches but the affluent have found their god in the attainment of wealth which is a lifetime pursuit. When I think of old Ireland, the country my parents came from and how the church's were bulging, now because their standard of living has ballooned the people have lost their faith and have left the church much like France and will Italy be next? Say what they want about the good old USA but church goers still crowd most churches even though only 25% attend church.
Greed is definitely the new god in America, and in many other nations these very sad days. And I truly believe that many are truly missing out on what life is supposed to be about.
This is an outstanding write Georg
I remember in my yesteryears when we wore our sunday best, to
to visit and worship our God, it was a day off rest, stores of what was know as dry goods were forbidden to open, after mass we spent the day together, or took a movie while mum cooked.
but going to mass was our first thought, on our day of rest.
Peace brother
It's sad how we pushed God by the wayside; if we don't wise up quick, He's going to lower the boom on us--and it ain't gonna' be pretty! All we have to do is look around us, appreciate His beauty, His goodness towards us, His many blsssings. That's what I try to do. Very well penned; bravo, Georg!
