Grandpas' have knees so grandchildren can sit on them and hear stories of times past when princesses could fly on dove's wings and flowers had rain drops and no tears, and ships sailed forever to visit exotic lands.
That was then, now, grandpa's beached knees are empty...Nintendo happened.

Dedicated to George Carrol

Papa Hemingway was on those shores
kicking perhaps the same golden sands
as his Muse were whispering the words
that would give reality to a fisherman,
which never asked the seas for a favor
but allowing him that one great catch.

So, nowhere was going by the same sea
just kicking a cheeky wave all in white
trying coquettishly to get my feet wet as
it morosely on to the beach will arrive,
with a sensual murmur, that of a lover,
promising you everything on demand.

I looked away, into those green expanses,
where thousand horizons you may find
if you boat take you through the storms
and the rudder keeps firm by your hand,
wind putting wrinkles, tanning your face,
years after, a sailor with a soul of salt.

Yes, the years passed, you didn’t noticed,
one morning your mirror reflected a old man,
under your feet was the rocking seas no more,
and a mute mode was on the waves lullaby,
gnarled hands useless to throw fishing nets,
just a vague remembrance of a sailor man.

I said defiantly, once, to the mighty seas,
“I would live forever, never beached on land,”
then, all the girls were calling no more,
and the days became like my rum, very dark,
way back lost everything, then remembrances,
and the last to go, I think, will be my last laugh.

Laughter and memories are what make life beautiful beyond words. Your poem for George speaks of a humble man whose life is still filled with joy and plans on having the last laugh [so to speak].
This is a wonderful tribute to a man whose heart is bigger than the ocean!

For me a very sad write, but a reality check for all Georg. We are young and invincible for such a short time and then all we can do is remember what once was until we can no longer remember at all. If we can still remember and it brings a laugh at the end of our days then we have indeed been blessed! Thanks Georg

Let the old man reminisce the seas and take a deep dive in the ocean of his imagination to emerge with a magnificent piece of art like ~
"The Old Man & The Sea" letting the reader see with protean eyes the ontologiacl mysteries of living.

Thank You Poet Georg Mateos for this FOAM made by the mingling of the WAVES of Your seas by the shoreline of friendship, and for dedicating it to our beloved Patriarch Poet George J. Carroll.

In reverent admiration,

Ah I think Poppy's knee can still be a wonderful place for young children who love their grand parents. Nintendo cannot fix boo boos or give hugs, but I do know what you mean.

Funny how that happens, but if we somehow manage to go out with a laugh, it's all probably been worth the ride.

Most inspiring poem for this old man to read this morning. Like footprints on the sand of life are washed away by our tears,
so is a laugh before the last breath carries it away. Thank you dear friend.
