Invisible Portrait?

Don't you ever wondered how other people really looks at you when you are unaware of been under their sight?
Don't you wonder when you look inside the eyes of a beloved one, what their heart are really thinking?
What kind of portrait we command in the memory of those we care most?

Poem Artwork

How the people looks at me?
Do they like I always do?
Making a mental portrait
like a painter without a clue?

Norman Rockwell once did it,
into a mirror he went and look,
painting that stranger reflected
smoking a pipe, looking smooth.

Is that the way to others see us?
Of friendship the important glue,
that holds everything together,
the cracking old with the new.

Every morning it will be there
a stranger with overhaul overdue
from a comb and a splash of water,
“good morning, do I know you?”

From the mirror, looking at us,
we try to smile, that’s no quite good,
the image offers only a wry expression,
maybe coffee is needed, you thought.

Out on the streets blend yourself
inside the human river, its multitude,
thousand go by, looking at you,
without a smile, with an absent attitude.

How the people looks at all of us?
We can’t know it with certitude,
because we are painting portraits
of them as well, also without a clue.

You are a master of words. "Clueless" would have been another good title, I think. We make 'snap' judgements of others throughout the day, etching them into our memory and storing them with other similar portraits. This is one of those poems that elicits great introspection.

God bless you. Kathy

...to see beyond the eyes of one...to open the shutter of the camera lens...perhaps to close it...how much light is let in and given out.

We adjust the aperture...all day...every day...depending on who we see before us.

well done Georg...

Painting them too,
Funny, most times I just walk around in my own little world and see them, but they never register unless she has a nice ass.

Superb write on the topic Georg! methinks we never really know how another truly sees us. And we always doubt what others would tell us anyway;-)I know I have a variety of opinions about myself and how I look in the mirror, and I don't like any of them;-)

reminds me of this quote, "if you can see yourself as others see you and at the same time see them as they see themselves, you have partially cleansed the doors of perception" Audlous Huxley

WooooW this is a very difficult question to answer
But the way I think and this is an old but wise proverb
Never judge a book by its cover
You will be very surprise that without taking the cover first
You will probably unfairly misjudged what is within the pages
I am always myself I smile at everyone for it does not butter
Me what people think or how they see me I learned that you
Can never pleased everyone so always is yourself
And smile you might just become friends
And I love having friends like you Georg !!!
Outstanding write Georg
Peace Love and Hugssss to you……Morning Star

We find it difficult to like the worse person we meet or forgive them. Or live with, do we? Yet we forgive and we like ourself...

This is so true. You capture well a universal question. I see this as our lifelong journey and mission -- attaining knowledge of self and others. Good job.

That is WHY it is right and a good thing to do, to think highly of everyone you see or come in contact with! It is a belief, that your thoughts are what brings you to where you are and how others see us!
Pondering thoughts deeply reached sweet Georg!
I see a warm and caring soul
wanted to be understood
and loved without conditions
as every one of us wants the same!
Nothing wrong in that...

We will always be voyeurs of the other yet most of us don't even know ourselves! Much thought in this poem! Bless You! Jasmin Horst

I love the picture it says it all, Norman Rockwell, one of the most perceptive of human nature, says it well in this portrait, I've noticed, he also stuck Vincent Van Gogh next to himself on the canvas, and God knows who else... know the drill!

It's like the old saying..."we can't judge a book by it's cover!" Or for that matter we can't judge food by the packaging...I've bought what I thought would be the best microwavable dish ever....EEWWW...great write my friend, thought provoking, only our self and the Lord knows what's on the inside of our heart, soul, and mind and that is where the real person exists...each of us can portray what we want on the outside...enjoyed!
Blessings,
Joyce B.

No one knows a person until they get to know the package, inside--the skin is just the wrapping. :) Thought provoking excellence, Georg, well done, and I love the illustration.

It is true, we never see or hear ourselves as others do, it is like the first time we hear ourselves on a tape we think somthing must be wrong with the equipment. As an autor and an actor, I can produce characters but usually absorb the characters I meet day to day into my stories...they are always far more interesting.
