The traveler is here again to tell you about just a few moments of his long journey, be with him for a short while and try to understand that a few that are blind can see, and many that can see are blind.

Poem Artwork

Went by a beautiful cathedral, pity, was empty,
after crossing a plaza paved with cobblestones,
and, as I knew that inside me was not a heart
my feet kept on going, by that beauty didn’t stop,
because my road was to be the longest of one
where at the end, be not a light and not a hope.

As I was getting away by a stucco walled street
between the poor houses and the cathedral stones,
it surprised me that some one could build so big
a church and laid beside, a narrow street so small,
that let a single man just getting through by it,
or two passersby being forced against the walls.

Thinking that I was lucky, I hurried up the street,
when a old man in rags saw me and didn’t stop
until we were in front of each other and he said,
“What’s with you son? not going inside my house?”
it took me by surprise, I wished to go by and said,
“Old man get out of my way, I am not your son”

“Are you so sure of me not being your father?”
he said with a smile, not with a challenging voice,
“you see, you asked for my help so many times,
now you tell me that you don’t recognize your God?”
very gentle with my hands on his chess I pushed
him aside, and squeeze me own body through.

Crazy but benevolent old man, didn’t pushed back,
and I continued my journey towards the “world”
that I knew was somewhere out there and waiting
for me, after leaving behind the one with no hope,
promises were ahead, like a mirage in my eyes
with more determinate steps I then proceeded to.

That lonely road had no tracks of any travelers,
like no one had ventured to walk there before,
in the distance approaching me was a young man,
sandals kicking sand, carrying carpenter’s tools,
“I saw you talking to my father back there” he said
with that same smile, ”will you believe, I am his son?”

“Go in peace” I said, “I am just a traveler passing by,
and from me or my thoughts you should fear not,
your father is a good man which I respected as I do
with all my elders, because one day I also will be old,
take good care of him or one day will be taken away
if he goes around telling strangers of he being God.”

I walked until the last rays of the sun, like fingers
holding at the horizon’s edge didn’t want to let go,
when at the road side I heard a crying little child
with the softest and heartbreaking of a child sobs,
“what’s the matter?” I asked, trying not to frighten
the little one there, in the near dark and all alone.

“You will not believe” he said with a sobbing hiccup,
“because you didn’t recognize the Father or the Son,
that it was my bad luck that among all the angels
they pick me for the guardian of your unbelieving soul,
don’t go further, because…it is nothing out there,
here is the end, a crying angel and a man that’s lost”

Dear Georg, Sorry for starting to read your story only today. I am still feeling the effect of WWII wounds and sometimes I need to relax and take care of myself.

First I must compliment you on the way you write, it is very clean and direct. The truth is coming from your pen without any hesitation. You describe the old man and the son, and the cathedral with the tiny street which brings an enormous contrast and irony. While reading your write I felt the fire which is burning in you to reach the unknown goal, which normally will unveil itself to you one day without any words and in a clarity that you cannot describe. We human beings on earth became so entangled with our intellect that we hardly can see what lay in front of us and even less what lay within us. Let me give you my blessing, so you will hopefully continue in the right direction, even without leaving home. Love to you and to all your loved ones. Your friend, Emile

This poem tells me you've had encounters with God in your life journey but you all brushed the experience aside, and the little boy -being your angel obviously would be heart broken...for "the man that's lost." These lines tell of your seeking heart but of your rationalizing mind, and that conflict will always make you "wander" from faith to reason, from doubt to trust. "Faith is being sure of what you do not see" for blessed are those who do not see and yet believe.

The end is vacant discovery: "it is nothing out there, here is the end." Questions unanswered after a long lonely journey.

I have enjoyed the reading of wise ontologic-teleological composition... - a masterspiece in any scale.

The closing lines were written with flawsless diamond letters:
\\ don’t go further, because…it is nothing out there,
here is the end, a crying angel and a man that’s lost” //

I salute You, Poet.

In respect and admiration,

Wow, a very powerful and compelling tale to say the least! Non-believers, there are many, but when faced with the truth one should examine the soul where truth and wisdom reigns....

Be always safe,

Georg,

"Went by a beautiful cathedral, pity, was empty" opens the pathway to eternal life (salvation) or damnation. Broad is the road that leads to destruction; narrow is the one that leads to eternal life; few find it. A powerful, powerful message in this one, your best, yet - keeper. Thank you.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

Quite a tale, Traveler; and you have told it, extremely well. And we should all take note of it, on our own journeys.

Oh my what a wonderfully profound and wise poetic tale my friend! Your poem reminds the reader that to fully be able to live we must believe in many things that we cannot see, also that we are given choices in this life that will forever impact who we are, where we go and what we become, as well as our eternal fate! Beautifully written my friend, this is as good or better than many poems that I read throughout college! I have a minor in English and this came about simply because I love to write and read, when others were dreading "the poetry section" I was devouring it. Poems were given by a wonderful little elderly doctor in one class that made the students stop and think, not those that you needed a dictionary to get through the first line, but poetry that held you captive with the opening line to the final stanza...this wonderful write would fit perfectly in her class. She would have loved this! I can see many discussions stemming from this! Well done!
Blessings,
Joyce B.
