Face the music and dance

She looks at the floor below her
just a little shy of three feet,
but when ready to play her piano
she will have “that” look for me
telling great grandpa to listen,
because the shows of magic
from her little fingers will begin.

Playing she will transform herself
from an innocent girl that’s sweet
in what Beethoven thought is play
from anybody fingers should be,
expecting many a interpretation
but not for a little girl grasping it.

After finishing the etude she would
kind of lay back and look at me
with that adult posture that is saying
“you thought I couldn’t do it”...see?
I am big enough to play this piano,
a big girl now, listen grandpa, is ME!”
