The only real mother I ever knew was my birth mother's best friend and her mother whom I affectionately call Grandma Dolly. Grandma Dolly made the best pies, the best meals, gave the best love she could find in her heart, and never yelled or cajoled. Yes I certainly agree that "mother.....is only one", and I am very happy to have had auntie Caroline and Grandma Dolly in my life to fill my hungry need for a mother. Thank you for sharing Georg.

Georg, I'll never again have the kind of cookies my mother made. I've had two people, including my oldest son try to duplicate those delicious, thin, crispy poppy seed cookies, but, nope, they ain't my mother's.

I envy those whom are blessed to have known their "Mother is only one"... Nurturant Mothers are such a solid presence in their childrens lives...
and being a Mother myself & the apples are still beckoning from my tree...I think some Apple Pie is in order! Or perhaps some Apple Crisp...can you bring the ice cream :)
