On life's winter years we will not remember perhaps, those tunes that enchanted our heart, but from the inside of the wooden entity will be coming a tremolo made of regrets...

God gave me a guitar without strings
so I could sing about my life
to a world full of deaf people
that didn’t like gents holding a guitar,
so I pretended to be screaming
to bug them all out of their minds
trying to see what I was saying
with contorted lips…openly wide!

God gave me a guitar without strings
so I could sing about “why why!”
to a bunch of voters lining up
to banter their freedom for a new Czar,
they told me they never had freedom
or any of those all bragged rights,
they were choosing without a voice,
like me, without strings playing a guitar!

God gave me a guitar without strings
when I was still fighting in Vietnam
trying to stop those dominoes to fall
while singing farewell over body bags,
and those that returned were forgotten
that’s no glory in it being a war veteran,
“you shouldn’t had go there” they say,
not our problem you didn’t duck in time.

God gave me a guitar without strings
so I could learn how painful is life,
with absences of maternal all care
and where silences are deafening loud,
to learn a tune creeping inside the head
and making strings from all that is sad.
God threw at me a string-less guitar,
I was too dumb to duck it in time.

God gave you a stringless guitar for you to play a tune like no other, a tune that was all yours to help rid this world of the ugliness and bring forth sweet music. Your service and the service of countless others is appreciated...

Be always safe,
Karen

Georg,
Thank you for serving and writing these words. They give me thoughts of how the veterans were treated of Vietnam. Stringless guitar...so original, from the master poet

we all strum through life ... what's keeps us in balance is constantly maintaining key and leaning new songs ... though when given a guitar with no strings we compelled to make our own ...

the strings are only invisible to those, who choose to realize they've never been there for them... to ever sing along with...but, really...they have! Can you hear them?
Georg, this creative piece is quite the abstract and undertones and tunes my own strings!
...I so much rather keep those strings from controlling me like some marionette...and just strum along with melodies, dancing to my own beat, whatever they is...?! Whatever anyone's is??? Can you hear them now? I do! :)
Loved it!
Love and Peace~

Georg - Enjoyed the paradox and irony which make up this poem, beginning with the title. Like the rhythm, too. This is one of my favorites. Especially liked:

to learn a tune creeping inside the head
and making strings from all that is sad.
God threw at me a string-less guitar,
I was too dumb to duck it in time.

THE GUITAR HAS STRINGS GEORG...THEY'RE INVISIBLE...ONLY THE 'DEAF' CAN HEAR IT'S MELODIES. NOW, THERE ARE NOT MANY THAT ARE DEAF BUT...THERE ARE SOME. BLESSINGS AND THANKS FOR SHARING THIS WELL WRITTEN WORK WITH ITS UNIQUE THEME THAT IS SOLIDLY SUPPORTED.

Not all of us need a guitar in order to sing... and you sing quite well without strings on your guitar. Maybe the Lord knew someone else would need the stringed guitar more than you... :~)

This is to my understanding, a top on the list on political and human subjects. "God and my Guitar" shows the bronken mirror of dignity and humanity. A satire on the falses pretenses for the industrial wars, indifference and social unrest.

In appreciation,

Dixie Dawn Michelle

I don’t have fancy words but I can say I am glad, Georg, that you didn’t fall like a domino tile and did not duck when God was throwing that guitar to you, otherwise what was the world going to do without you … without your big and caring heart and illuminating mind, great person and a writer that can make us smile even during his saddest hour with his uplifting humor…

God throws many string less instruments at us all (love your symbol)
It is so harrowing these paths you have played upon your life
“God gave me a guitar without strings
when I was still fighting in Vietnam
trying to stop those dominoes to fall
while singing farewell over body bags,”

In all you play...you offer emotional words of truth through these vexing memories you share...
You are a blessing to know... a hero of a man such as you Georg...your endurance & your spirit
Peace & Blessings

I read this three times my friend and with each reading it got to me more and more. It touched chords (excuse the pun) inside my soul of how cruel this world can be but yet how strong the human spirit can be. How man can suffer so much but still endure to reach out physically or in word to show the way to others. This is one of your very best Georg and deserves the highest of praise...bravo zulu my friend and peer.
hugs and a salute
