We, the Veterans, have soldiers brothers and sisters in harms reach on yet another Christmas. Is my freedom worth their lives? that's what is heaviest on my heart every time I see a child and remember that the father or the mother are in uniform and that maybe this time they will not come back.
Is the life of our soldiers worth the freedom that is not wanted?
On 2009 Christmas, dedicated to all the soldiers far away from home.
In the year of the Lord…
“they,” the unwise, have send
the son of your mother
where a bullet has your name;
does it matter if it is Hanukah
Ramadan or Christmas day
when you celebrate
with all your soul your faith?
Mother, father and siblings and
a wife with a little one you left,
coming Christmas soldier…
everybody…something get,
from lovingly tender hands
for your delight to exclaim.
In the year of the Lord…
brother soldier you are far,
very far away today,
and under your tree,
watch out! someone left,
a bullet with your name.
I don't understand the whys of all these wars, I know some will never come home, others will come home damaged. Only God can protect them. Keep writing these reminders Georg, we need to hear them.

What a beautiful and worthy remembrance for our many soldiers in harms way, Georg! I'm one who admits to being a "dove", so I'm saddened and question each life taken or shattered in Iraq and Afghanistan; their worth is more than we recognize. God Bless Them All, and you, my friend.

Georg you really nailed this one with a message as strong as the bells of Christmas. Generation after generation of soldiers, sailors and airmen have felt tht tug of homesickness for loved ones they left to protect the rights of others...I hope we all take a moment of silence this year when we sit down at our Christmas dinner in tribute to these brave men and women all over the world.

Sad and sobering. I know my life is not worth this infernal carnage we seem to "get" into. Sadly those in uniform lose so much just for serving. A poignant write and excellent. Liz
We celebrated my Christmas in 'Nam with a home-made spaghetti dinner. We cooked the sauce all day, literally and figuratively. I wondered about what one of the ingredients was, but the CO was smiling.

Not a day goes by that I don't think about our men and women overseas fighting for our freedom. Now, at Christmas time I find myself filled with sadness for them and what it must be like for them to think about home and all that we take for granted during this special time of the year. You've written a wonderful poem and may God protect each and every one of them and send them home to us soon.

Thanks, Georg. I attended a concert by the 312th Army Reserve Band on Saturday night and was there because SPC Bethany Linville - my granddaughter. She is one of many and very special in my heart this season.

Yes, worth it: because if you didn't go, no one else would, either - might as well hand the country over to the enemy. War is hell - soldiers die, get wounded - and then get forgotten by their own Nation when they come home - if they come home - and if 'they' don't want freedom, 'they' shouldn't be asking for our money or coming here for asylum! Let them fight their own battles. Sorry, Georg, disagree a bit, but still, a powerfully poignant, shattering write - well done.
What a tribute to a soldier in the frontline of war during a time when he was supposed to be in peace, spending Chrismas with his family, friends and loved ones. Great work my friend you have a heart for love, respect and peace.
