The Second Thing
you'll notice when
you see me is
silver hair winding
to the shoulder
with a mind of its own.
I like to think
it will distract you
if only for a moment
from the seasoned
portrait it frames.
Like to think
the true hue
of any chef d'oeuvre deepens with age.
(I have it on good
authority oil paint
never completely dries.)
The first thing
you'll notice
when you see me,
however,
is the light I carry
like calla lilies
in my arms.
