I started thinking about death and the afterlife a few nights ago and this is what came out.
Awakened with a gasp on the shores of
consciousness, confused, unaware of her
surroundings, slowly she begins to remember.
She remembers dying; she remembers living.
She starts to weep profusely, then stops
suddenly as tears drop from her flooded
eyes. She wonders how this can be if she is
dead, a mere shadow of a living being. She
pulls herself to her feet and wipes the
dampness from her face. Her hand lingers
feeling the cool lifelike flesh beneath her
fingertips. Her gaze drifted downward and
came to rest on her feet as she watched her
toes dig into the sand. It's so different
here she thought, in this afterlife world.
Expecting to be a disembodied form of energy
she is taken aback by the tangibleness of
her newfound existence. Old familiar faces
come...she is gone...to experience.
A further collection of poems, many from years in the Middle East, but also the California San Francisco and Central Coast areas (Santa Cruz, Carmel, Big Sur, Berkeley, etc.).
Another beautiful one!

I agree with Michelle, this is exceptional and something that I have thought about many times. JC
