the pudgy middle
the saggy breasts

when my mind is sharper than ever
when all the essentials are working
when I am one hundred times
the person I was at twenty
why deny
the cheesecake
the fifth glass of wine
knowing that tomorrow I’ll be puffy eyed
throw mama
why climb on the treadmill
rat mobile
chasing the elusive cheese
why not wear my Uggs to work
and be damned when eyebrows raise
why pluck eyebrows
when no one really notices
why is it not okay

someone different
someone cuter, thinner, hipper,
this is me
I like me
I worked hard suffered hard for stretch marks
and laugh lines
I honestly don’t care what the mirror says
inside of me
there is a wealth of love
of outrageous fun
laughter sits on my shoulder

is my friend
there is no wit that matches mine
because it is mine
I love life

why go running pell mell

someone else’s idea of beautiful

but today I do feel old
