on the skirt tails of a flaming flash
I’m sitting
watching the enormous impact
of all
eyes
turned to me
wondering why
why would I choose to catch
this
when
you see it really wasn’t necessary
not
all
that
bad
could have been worse
all I can say
is
atrophied
inside
dead wood, not burnable
turned to stone
cold
and then
this star
this flash
unbelievable in its magnitude
unbelievable that I had a chance to
jump aboard
me
just your average Joe Schmo
and then
not
more than
we all are really, not a joe schmo amongst us
each
special a gift a sparkling facet
each
a shooting star meant to blaze
an unforgettable stroke across the heavens
remembered in brilliance
the rest
will fall into place
has a way of doing that
what seems a big deal
really
isn’t
what seems monumental
isn’t
what is of marked significance
is the fact that
I raised my hand and said
yeah I’ll do that
I have to
I
choose to
I want to
sitting on the skirt tails of a flaming flash
astonished eyes
yes
she did she did indeed
and
she would
again
