standing solo
at the bagel shop
eyes falling toward
a
vase
fresh cut flowers
taking me to another place

I reach out hesitant

the glorious
rolling off the petal into my heart
into the
me
that is now
that sees differently
that understands
ultimately
what is and isn’t important
snapped back to mundane cream cheese
inquiry
a backward glance
at the flower that was my life
standing in a pool of stagnant water
screaming
to
come
back
