Now Lena, this is a perfect invitation to read your words and comment. :) As for me, the real reason for the season has been forgotten, buried in man made tradition; Santa Claus is presented as the Savior! Sad. No one hears the beautiful hymns of praise anymore; all of the music played in the stores and radio praise the secular. Sad, indeed.......the only thing "Christian" is sharing the "spirit" of the holidays, instead of telling the GOOD NEWS. Thank you for penning this thought provoker; well done!

Oh we liked it very much, but to celebrate Christmas with Santa Claus, stories and other little add-ons should not do harm, it shows that those who have the love and spirit inside show it by sharing it with others. But, we should never forget the real reason, that's for sure!

Whoa, Lena! Quite powerful, Sister.....and true.

On the other hand, when Christ is your heart -not just IN it, but IS it - Santa is no threat. As a matter of fact, My story "Salvation Santa" will show just that....[if I ever get the rest of it posted, that is, and now, I think i'd better! LOL]

The hearts and homes of all of our clan is truly CHRIST-Centered - and so are our celebrations here, Lena...but Grandpa Joe and I allow Santa for the little ones. We grew up with him - and the spirit of love and joy and peace and gentleness and kindness and hope he projected, sure never hurt us - or dissuaded us from Jesus CHRIST...see where I am going with this?

MAN ruins everything.....CONSUMER GREED is just a small part!

Praise God, the Scripture also says, Jesus sees and judges our hearts.
If the Foundation is sound, it doesn't crumble..

Good job!! Though formal religion and I do not get along, I think it is clear that the single most important message that Christ and the other great religious leaders taught {by example, not just in words} was to love one another. Period! Consumerism is rampant -- at any rate, in the U.S. --, and until we turn the tide, we are in great
danger of losing the ability to connect spiritually. I see nothing wrong with Santa Claus, per se. But. . .things have gotten out
of hand, y e s. To me, Christmas {whether one practices a formal form of Christianity or not} is about giving unselfishly and from the heart the kinds of things that cannot be bought. Thank you for this
well-thought-out and obviously deeply sincere reminder!!

Gee, girl. You have opened a whole can of worms here.
I am not concerned with Santa Claus or Father Christmas or St. Nicholous. I think it is a wonderful parable such as Jesus taught with. It is about giving. The problem is we get caught up in receiving. Now here is a challenge for you. As Christians we need to ask ourselves to honestly answer why we are Christians. For many, it is to save ourselves. OH NO! Here we go again. If I am not careful it is all about me. Jesus came to give. We are the ones who receive. Are we willing to give ourselves in return? This causes us to ask, if I am forced to make a choice between God and Country, which will I choose? This could go on and on. It has gone on and on. But your write is a beautiful way to open a dialogue from we can all learn.

If you start to follow what others tell you you'll lose your mind, for everyone is different. You are right in that Christmas is a feast of Jesus being born. You will find no tree in my house. Only a small manger, a baby Jesus, special white grass, and a poinsietta. And cards with the a true Christmas spirit. In Malta, no Christmas was correct if you do not go to church at midnight and hear a sermon by a small boy on the real subject. It is still the tradition. Victor

As far as Christian and bible and Saint Nick he wasnt in the bible it is a traditon I believe of Turkey back ground could be wrong... he was Kind to all the poor children in his village. He is often seen in history of this tradition bowing at the manger of Jesus Christ. I agree one could get in a pickle trying to ride the fence of belief as a christian and mans ways. But Jesus is the Reason for this season and all seasons in my thoughts and heart. This is a wonderful piece... Lena... I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and I know you are not either SISTER so I do not care what the world thinks of me it is what he thinks of me and he loves us :)

You will get no argument from me. I did a write about how we misuse Christmas called 'Christmas, now there's a joke'. All you say is true.

Well, okay then, Lena. When our kids were young and we were new Christians, we decided to tell them only the truth about Christmas. We still bought gifts and celebrated and had a tree, etc. but our main emphasis was on Jesus Christ coming to earth as a baby.
Santa Claus is okay, I guess, but more and more he is given the pre-eminent position that belongs to the Lord Jesus.
I won't criticize others who want to teach their kids to believe in Santa, but I'm glad our family went the other way.
Santa Claus is not God.
