The Way of the Cross
In silence I follow the crowds
Along the Via Dolorosa—the Way of the Cross
The traditional route Jesus followed, bearing His Cross from
Pilate’s Judgment Hall to Calvary Hill or Golgotha!
This route runs through the Moslem Quarter
Their shops line both sides; their merchandise on exhibit
Enticing pilgrims to purchase souvenirs, both Jewish and Christian!
Catholic pilgrims stop to pray and pay homage
At the fourteen Stations of the Cross carved on the walls;
But my mind focuses on the scene of Jesus dragging that heavy Cross
Step by painful step; His face in agony from the wreath of thorns;
His body sore from the cruel beatings by the Roman soldiers!
My emotions are once again challenged
Like those of the great company who followed Jesus
Wailing and lamenting His ordeal!
“Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for Me,
But weep for yourselves, and for your children.”
[Luke 23:28]

Step by painful step. Indeed, Lena but my mind focuses on the empty cross as a reminder that death dead not hold my Lord.
