In the newborn day, houses sit
in solitude, their porches cast in
cool shadows offered by the low
hanging branches of oak and maple.
In the heat of afternoon, children of the
neighborhood run and play in the
streets with their friends while their
parents relax in the cool offering of shade.
As the day grows older, neighborhood
pets bask in the sun, and cool wisps of
breeze tickle their fur like subtle laughter,
dreaming away in the nostalgic warmth of July.
In the musk of evening, the smell of
dinner begins to emanate from the
houses, and darkened silhouettes rush
inside to fill themselves,
as the appearing stars serenade
them in Summer’s comforting arms.
