*Dedicated to Dick Wilhelm, Arts/Editor of the Ibbetson Press. ( This poem was written years ago, since then Dick has married and lives in a big, lovely house!)
Layers of books chaotically stacked the few, shopworn shelves forgotten totems of order. A canvas emerges from the scatter of fiction a night I swear I've seen before-- prisms of light riding the chop of some harbor... Then... a long table The ashes of lover's notes the unattended bills the half empty bottles the still, stagnant waters-- and the paint- crusted brushes sprouting like colorful weeds from rusty coffee cans reach to the sky for a stroke a swath of brilliance.
