A Sherman Oatmeal Scone
Funny thing--
for a poem.
An oatmeal scone.
But it is the first
to meet my mouth
at the break of day,
bright, red cherries
greeting me
from mealy
tasty clay.
And it never
tastes quite the same
and its daily texture
a new thrill
for the roof of
my mouth--
A succulent, grainy
morsel
that jiggles
on many a
studded tongue--
a scone that dances
with us
whether we are old
or young.
