Another adventure at the Sherman Cafe, my writing haunt....

The Undertaker Takes His Lunch

*** Observed at the Sherman Café, Somerville, Mass.

The undertaker delicately wipes his mouth
another repast
has passed.
He scans the tabloid-
no need to note
the obits.
And in his seemingly flawless
black suit
I detect--
perhaps a shadow,
nothing more
than a commonplace stain.

And that seam
seems...
well,
a bit frayed
merely
a subtle ...

yes, that's it

an innuendo
of wear.

The undertaker
runs his well-veined hand
through the shoe polish
in his hair--

Just below,
his
gray roots grow.

Enjoyed this very much...there's something about an undertaker that is very mysterious, yet a bit disturbing. Wonderful write.

Be a bit of a shock for him if he read his own name..
