is it a pale jewel
blasted white by a blazing sun?
or the night sea of
indigo waves
churning from darkling depths?
is it the turqoise of tropic isles
and sun-drenched shores,
crashing with walls of waves?
is it the cold northern water
of grim-lined faces
and cold white caps
falling in noise and weight
on scarred shrimp boats and salted decks?
is it the sea
of the splendor
of starlit waves
catching the moonlit clouds
under a night expanse?
or is it, like mine, eternal,
a wide celadon sea,
the crashing weight of its waves
a thundering army
on rocks and sand?
