Where have they gone?

Hey man, I am 61 years old. If regaining my youth was a simple matter of reversing the numbers I could be 16 again. That is not going to happen in this world. As we get older we have a tendency to wish for the ‘good ole’ days. The fact is that no matter how old we get we should be living for today. I am the father of three. I am a grandfather of five. Eight bundles of joy that can bring joy into my heart. Why long for the good ole days. I am living them.

Poem Artwork

“Where have they gone?” I ask myself for truly I miss them so.
The good times enjoyed in my youth. The ones I used to know.

Did they fade away with my youth and slowly disappear?
Did they become more and more tired with each long passing year?

Why do I not feel like the young man that I once used to know?
Why is it that those happy times could not stay? Why did they have to go?

In truth if I am still looking for the magic of the wonder days of yesteryear.
If those are the only memories which my heart can hold close and dear

I have a problem with my heart for it has become farsighted and blind.
You see every day brings more good times which are why the old is left behind.

Look up and thank the Lord above for every day you live.
Follow him and never miss the chance to share or the opportunity to give.

God knows that life is full of good times which come with each and every breath.
He knows the joy of living and he knows the glory of death.

So live for today and keep in mind that tomorrow these will be good times remembered.
So, live each second, minute, hour and day for they are surely numbered.

Keep in mind that eternity is waiting just beyond the sky.
When we meet the Master in Heaven we will know the reason why.

Why those days of yesteryear were meant to pass away.
They make more room for more new experiences as we live from day to day.

My dear friend Lew, 61 is not old...no siree. There is still a lot of daylight left in you. My friends and I have a good laugh as we compare our "getting-on-in-years notes". Seriously though, we just have to keep thanking God for His grace and mercy, love and blessing, and for granting us another new day. Enjoyed your poem, old boy! :)

God Bless

Wonderful advice my friend...we learn from the past, it is nice to reflect back sometimes, I've heard people say that they love to go back...I'm not so sure, maybe if I could go back with the knowledge that I've gained, hard lessons were learned back then...
Blessings,
