On the news during this past week I have seen how love can triumph over hatred. I have also seen people who still hate and it stands between them and true happiness. I won’t go into the details but it has inspired me to write the following.

An evil force is hatred for it keeps us from understanding.
It stands between each of us and his brother with its passion so demanding.
An evil force is hatred for true love cannot abide.
In your heart the two of them just simply cannot exist side by side.

What causes this thing called hatred and where does it lead us all.
It leads to war and violence and creates too much noise for us to hear God’s call.
Why do we dwell on this negative force? Why is it that we retain it?
It comes from the very depth of Hell and it will drag us down to the pit.

Hate is a four letter word, my friend as is love, you see.
Love can build bridges but hatred will not allow them be.
The challenge of life is to keep building those bridges back again
And love is a wonderful tool we use so that those bridges we can maintain.

If we have enough love in our heart we will someday build one giant span.
It will reach all the way to Heavens gates. If we try we surely can
If not we are condemned to never leave the ground and never know flights thrill.
Love can lift us off the ground and take our hearts where’re we will.

Hatred on the other hand is a heavy weight to bear.
While we carry such a load we find we can go nowhere.
Today is the day for each of us to make a choice between the two.
I choose love and optimism and I pray that you do, too.
