written in anger toward family members at a time when life was really kicking my butt

I called you today, your birthday

Such emotion I felt as I told you how my son, your grandson

Was suffering

Of course, you said, “He’s okay, he’ll be okay,

He’s a good kid”

Easy for you-just say the right thing

Never have to do anything

Not your problem and you’re right, of course

It would make a difference

But, everyone is too busy

To be an Aunt, Uncle, Grandma, Grandpa

Even friend

Alone again-MY problem

In the place of not knowing

Ignorance is truly bliss

Not knowing signifies no need to act

Better for you to just believe and hope the best

So, in my space far from you

I will not turn and choose not to know.

Love is more compelling than the bliss

Love is also so alone.

So - If it isn’t small talk, “Everything is fine”,

“How’s the weather there?"

Don’t call

I think we've been taught to look away--to not pry. That's complicated by distance. When we're not in a situation how can we understand it in a society that makes us look away? The two compound each other.

I feel the pain here and the true experience too often in many families, mine included. Very universal approach as you speak truth to power. <Mikii>

Yes it is true, people have a tendency these days to look the other way more often then not. I feel sorry for them and pity them for their turn may someday arrive and who will be there to care?

You Look FatCalgary by RickthePoetWarrior

Using Calgary as a backdrop the author satirizes the self-serving nature of the public as it continues to fatten itself, not only physically, but egotistically as well.
