Ink

The ink bleeds into parchment

Beautifully formed letters

That will dry and become imbedded with time

Written in the heat of tumultuous feelings

The words hold such emotion

Of a soul who has suffered and felt deeply

Phrases cry out to be understood

By one who forever remains unaware

Centuries pass and the parchment falls

From a leather-bound volume of verse

It floats to the hardwood and beneath the shelf

Where a young girls gentle hand retrieves it

She reads it and weeps as the pain bleeds through

The beauty of true love felt but forbidden

Close to her heart she hold these words

As they are tucked away close on her own wedding day

it's an eerie feeling reading old words, old lines, and realizing they were penned by someone who breathed, lived, suffered, laughed, among so many others things. just as we do today.

Love's arrow flies straight and true, embedding itself in our most tender spots and at our most vulnerable times, often. Very nice narrative to this poem, Karen. I wept buckets when I found tucked away a note which my Mother obviously couldn't bring herself to give me on my wedding day. I would have had so much more understanding of how she felt if she had. This strikes a beautiful chord in me. TY Kate xx

Very atmospheric, one can see and feel the thoughts of the lass on her day, and how short the time is on eitherside of the grave-stone...
