I sit here in the Salvation Army church house chapel
The place I take my granddaughter to see her mom
Her mom in the Salvation Army
Drug rehabilitation program
And they sing, these ladies fighting addiction
They sing as part of their rehab
One plays guitar and another the drums
And they sing of something bigger than any or all of them
And I find myself lost in memories deep
I see our own little family band
My little sister swallowed up
By a drum set three times her size
And we sang of something bigger too
But all that singing and playing et al
Was never bigger to us four kids
Than our world of turmoil and chaos
Made worse with all that singing and playing
God Bless

and yet grace blossoms
through the pen of the poet
and through her will
to exercise understanding
and hold with love
the hand of a granddaughter
whose life will sing a sweeter song.
A Very Merry Christmas to You,
and a Truly Joyous New Year,

Made worse with all that singing and playing
Incredibly sad and honestly truthful. I have no worthy words. If I may extend love and best wishes to you,
Regis
Reminds me so muich of a couplet in Phillip Larkin's poem, "This Be The Verse" It goes "man hands on misery to man, / it deepens like a coastal shelf...
