Greater Good

In one’s early years, life itself

Hold all the magic needed

With ponies to ride and pups to hug

The world your oyster true

Dreams of knights and noble steeds

Prince Charming true and “happy ever after.”

But heads in the clouds fade to clouds in one’s thoughts

With guilt and never good enough

So the search begins for miracles true ,

A power bigger than self

A journey through the Holy Book

And many church steps traversed

The reader discovers that the words have comfort

But the speakers use them to battle the truth

Each seems to have their very own version

Of which it seems to the receiver of these words--there is no truth

 As the listener battles to keep herself

From falling under the weight in her soul

Praying for a miracle bigger

Than the consequences of her own bad decisions

Loooking for sign, or a lightning bolt—something

Prayers and fasting left nothing but empty

But strength within was found on the journey

And a power as big as was needed

The miracle looked for was in this strength

Of a belief in goodness and honor

And in living every day looking

For the greater good in us all
