My Socks Don't Match

I fear that to my horror

I have been strolling through this space

As one whose slip is showing

Walking round with spinach between my teeth.

I vow I will do better

I will write with much more care

I don't profess to know poetry well

I should have become more knowing before showing.

I remain forever grateful

To those who care enough

To come to me and softly whisper

My dear, your socks don't match!

you're a great down to earth poetess Karen, fooie on the pie in the sky, they think they know why, poetry is about people and what the individual wants to write. example

I had a hard azz day,
most of the time it's this way,
but I still find time to play.

hugs

You will probably not catch me
With socks that don't match
But I once wen to work so early
My blouse was backwards and no one told me
Till the end of the day!
I don't profess to know poetry well
I should have become more knowing before showing
I truly love your poetry you write
With so much passion and wisdom you
Are a great poetess!!
Outstanding Piece!!
Peace Love and hugssss....Morning Star

Each person is different, each unique in their own way, each part of that person is different, right and left sides. You are unique and who cares if the socks don't match, you are special and cherished for being you. Great write. Love, Bonnie

Karen,
You said, "I will write with much more care" and "I should have become more knowing before showing." But I and all who are touched by the passion and love in your words release you from such a vow. For you know what is important, the ideals and truths that you share with us each time you write. And you know how to write in such a way that we not only perceave those very ideals and truths with our minds but experience them with our hearts. And to use a well worn phrase. I may not know what is good but I know what I like, and I like what you write.
Your friend,
Marilyn

This is great
Reminds me of a few days ago
i was at a party, visit the restroom
and returned unsuspected with my fly unzipped
and no one had the courtesy to even whisper it in my ears
I discovered it myself when I past by a mirror
needless to say, my face turned red
peace be with you

The very essence and meaning of poetry is the options that the poet as an artist is free to use the words and the presentation to best utilize his talent. If we all only wrote rhymes, or Kus or whatever poetry would get boring and dull. I encourage all to write what they conceive is poetry not what a book says it should be.

I love the vulnerability that shines through in these words. To me, it's better to be genuinely "unmatched" than a contrived picture of perfection. There's something so endearing about people who wear their socks with no thought as to whether they match. Great poem.

True story: I've been to a wedding. One of the 'ladies' came out of the washroom with her skirt tugged in her pantyhouse in the back.... guess she musta been tipsy or somethin'...it was hilarious. The poor gal was so embarrast, her man had to take her home.
Enjoyed your write, Karen, but I'm trying very hard to convince myself not to take myself too serious. Spinach in my teeth? All the time!
Love,
Becca~
